I thought that I had mentioned this before on the list about my interest in "Cold Case Polygraph Review"

We have a case from back in the seventies where polygraph exams were given and along with other "red flags" a suspect that failed the polygraph remained on top for over 35 years. I reviewed the polygraph reports (No charts available) and talked with the examiner (non law enforcement and had only been doing pre-employment R/I's) collected two charts and noted one as insufficient but called the exam D/I based on what he had.

Admittedly another examiner (Law Enf) trained in the day with R/I told me that we needed to discount the exam that was done and reevaluate the suspect. Well we did and were able to move on in the case.

Just noticed today a "Cold Case" solved in New Jersey

2 charged with murder of 5 teens missing since '78

(AP) – 10 hours ago

NEWARK, N.J. — Two men have been charged with the murders of five teenage boys in New Jersey who disappeared more than 30 years ago.

The Essex County prosecutor's office says the men were arrested Monday night and also charged with arson. Their names haven't been released.

The boys, who were all 16 or 17, had last been seen on a busy Newark street on Aug. 20, 1978. Police have said they were with a local carpenter who routinely hired teens to help him with odd jobs. He had been repeatedly interviewed, passed a polygraph examination, and was cleared as a suspect months after the disappearances.

The prosecutor's office did not immediately say how the case was solved.

Helen Simmons is the aunt of one of the boys. She calls the arrests "a bittersweet victory" and says that "finally someone will be accountable."

This article brought me the concern as well that "Passed Polygraph" perhaps being attributed to the same issues we had in looking at "Cold Cases"....

I tend to believe that there are quite a few Cold Cases out there with Polygraph Exam's that should be reviewed.

Thoughts?
